How does a diesel generator work?

Three processes of diesel generator work

1. The combustion process of a diesel engine

When diesel enters the cylinder, it mixes with high-pressure air and is compressed. When a certain pressure is reached, the injector will spray an appropriate amount of diesel into the cylinder. Due to the high temperature and high pressure, the diesel will burn quickly and release a large amount of heat energy. This heat energy will push the piston down, thereby driving the crankshaft to rotate.

2. The crankshaft drives the generator to rotate

The crankshaft is a key component connecting the piston and the generator. When the piston moves down, the crankshaft will also rotate. Since a generator is installed on the crankshaft, when the crankshaft rotates, it will drive the generator to generate current.

3. The generator generates AC power

In some cases, diesel generators generate DC power. However, most diesel generators drive the load with AC power. The AC power generated by the generator can be supplied to the load after being processed by the transformer and rectifier.
